The Grand Opening

We decided to hold a "Grand Opening" for Ukunda Missions Church.  There were several reasons for doing this.  We wanted the surrounding community to know who we are, and what we are doing, and to invite them to an event with a meal in which we can introduce ourselves.

So we planned the event, inviting the neighbors, and pastors from nearby churches.  We hoped for about 200 people to attend.

The Grand Opening was held on Sunday, October 24th.  In the opening meeting, we dedicated "Vaughn Martin Otieno" to the Lord.  Not sure if that has any significance or not.

There were several visiting bands playing songs and leading worship

Katan and the "Baya's Family Gospel Band" led the main worship session.  I appreciate this band a lot.  Katana has a real heart for true worship.  He tells me that music was created as a means of worshiping God, and that he has no desire to use it for anything else.   Sometimes the presence of God is felt so strongly during the worship times with Katan and his band.

People showed up throughout the day.  By the afternoon, there were about 200 in attendance.   They were a mixture of pastors, drug addicts, recent converts, and our neighbors.

We ended the days events with the planting of a tree.
